Where to get a credit card- Types of Credit Card

Before applying for an online credit card you need:

  • Your bank current account number
  • Your bank sort code
  • Your present address in the UK
  • Your previous address (if you've lived at your present address for less than 3 years)

You should be over 18 years of age and resident in the UK.

Types of credit card available in the UK

There are several different types of credit card available to apply for in the UK.

There are those which have no annual fee (and of course those with an annual fee)

Some have an introductory rate on purchases -

Deciding which is the best card for you depends entirely on your circumstances - if you always pay off the balance then a card which gives you cash back would work well for you. If however you don't pay off the full balance every month then it probably is better to look for a lowest interest rate card.


Standard, Gold and platinum cards are also options available. Generally speaking if you're on a low income then you won't get a high end card - be realistic whne you're applying - a failed application isn't good for you.
